Founded just over six years ago by three seasoned accounting professionals, Altair Group was born from a vision to create an exceptional workplace that values authenticity, celebrates individuality, and doesn’t sacrifice culture for growth.

The company solicits feedback from the team twice a year on the great and “not so great” clients and why they fall into each category. The team then considers ways to make the “not so great” client relationships better. In some cases, the team has decided to cut ties with clients that don’t support its core values and the company culture.

“The company has decided to grow patiently and strategically and to grow only after adding the right team members and the right clients that fit our core values,” says Altair Group Partner Shannon Hudson.

Instead of a static mission statement, the company lives by five core values, which are being trustworthy, a team player, inclusive, curious, and thoughtful. Each of these values comes with clearly defined traits that guide hiring, feedback, and promotions.

At Altair, staff feedback isn’t just welcomed, it’s embedded through biannual “Post-Tax Season Debriefs” and peer-led committees that turn employee suggestions into real operational improvements.

Altair Group provides bonuses when employees obtain their professional license as a Certified Public Accountant and IRS Enrolled Agent and offers other “surprise” bonuses throughout the year.

The firm also celebrates the human side of work. Birthdays are personalized with cupcakes, donuts, and lunch based on the employee’s preference. New parents get company-hosted baby showers. And on half-day Fridays, the office closes at 1 p.m. for most of the summer. During tax season, the team enjoys Saturday lunches and even on-site massages.

Business NH Magazine named 27 businesses as the 2025 Best Companies to Work For in NH and inducted seven companies into the competition's Hall of Fame.

For 27 years, Business NH Magazine has recognized businesses that go out of their way to create engaging workplaces and understand that fulfilled employees are more productive.

A recent report from Gallup found employee engagement globally dropped in 2024—only the second time in the past 12 years. Engagement among managers took a big hit as they face new daunting challenges.

When your managers aren’t happy, your workforce isn’t too far behind. Finding ways to engage employees and developing cultures that meet these new challenges is imperative. Who better to turn to for answers than those with employees reporting high engagement? The September issue of Business NH Magazine celebrates delves into and celebrates the practices of this year’s Best Companies to Work For in New Hampshire,” says Executive Editor Matt Mowry.
