Four NH Cities Included on Small City Entrepreneurship List

According to an analysis from WalletHub, Concord’s overall business landscape ranks 840 out of 1,268 small-sized cities across the U.S., defined by the study as cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 residents. 

For the study, a panel of 15 business and entrepreneurship experts analyzed data from a variety of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Areavibes, Yelp, Indeed, U.S. News & World Report, Tax Foundation and LoopNet. 

The panel’s criteria were divided into three main categories, covering business environment, access to resources and business costs. Sub-categories were broken down as follows:

Business Environment

  • Length of Average Work Week
  • Average Growth in Number of Small Businesses
  • Number of Startups per 100,000 Residents
  • Average Revenue per Business
  • Average Growth of Business Revenues
  • Industry Variety

Access to Resources

  • Financing Accessibility
  • Prevalence of Investors
  • Employee Availability
  • Higher-Education Assets
  • Workforce Educational Attainment

Business Costs

  • Office-Space Affordability
  • Median Annual Income
  • Corporate Taxes
  • Cost of Living

Other NH cities appearing on the list are Dover (891), Nashua (1034) and Rochester (1098). Topping the list was Holland, Michigan, while Suisun City, California took the bottom spot among cities studied for the analysis.
