Published Thursday Oct 16, 2014

The Business and Industry Association will recognize and honor Gary Long, former president and chief operating officer of Public Service of New Hampshire, with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award. Long will be remembered for his service and commitment to the state at the association’s 101st Annual Dinner, Lifetime Achievement and New Hampshire Advantage Awards Celebration presented by Public Service of New Hampshire to be held Oct. 29 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel/Center of New Hampshire in Manchester.

Long joined Public Service of New Hampshire in 1976 as an assistant engineer. He served for 38 years and led the company as president and chief operating officer from 2000 to 2013. His contributions were many, including a key role in the restructuring of the electric utility industry in New Hampshire and participation in the development of the state’s Climate Action Plan.

PSNH was named a “Best Company to Work For” the year after Gary took over as president and he was named Business Leader of the Year in 2006 by Business NH Magazine. He set the tone for employees, helping to advance the work of numerous nonprofit, community and economic development organizations in the state and was the current chairman of the Granite United Way board of directors. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Unitil recognizes business leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership in their professions, communities and New Hampshire. Award recipients help shape their local communities and the state through their successful business endeavors, active participation in civic and town organizations, involvement in boards, and service to local and state government.

BIA will also present Lifetime Achievement awards to Doug Dean, former CEO of Elliot Health System, and John Olson, president of Whelen Engineering.

Tickets for the 101st Annual Dinner, Lifetime Achievement and New Hampshire Advantage Awards Celebration presented by Public Service of New Hampshire are $1,100 for a table of 10 or $125 per person and may be purchased online at BIAofNH.com/events. For more information, call 603-224-5388 x116.
