Mascoma Bank, a certified B Corporation, uses business “as a force for good.” That includes building a culture where employees embrace continuous improvement and are encouraged to innovate.

Part of its B Corporation mission is to give back to the community, and as such, it attracts community-minded employees. In addition to contributing $2 million annually to nonprofits, Mascoma provides employees with 16 hours of paid community service and matches employee donations up to $300 annually.

The bank also encourages physical, mental and financial well-being. Employees who participate in the bank’s wellness programs can win prizes that include an extra hour of volunteer time off, a Wellness Day added to earned time or a matched donation to a charity of their choice. Mascoma also offered certified mental health first-aid training for supervisors and encourages employees to form employee resource groups.

One of its employee resource groups recently developed the First Friends program as part of the onboarding process for employees. This program pairs an employee with a new team member to help them navigate their first couple months with Mascoma Bank. It’s intended to build new friendships and working relationships.

Among the perks offered by the bank are remote work opportunities, profit sharing for all employees, the opportunity to win prizes when bank goals are met, 12 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caretakers and up to $6,000 or $8,000 for student loan repayment or tuition reimbursement respectively.
