ITR Economics gives employees the choice to work remotely, and as most do, ITR has embraced the change to its culture. Based on employee feedback, ITR developed a new policy—“Meeting Free Fridays”—with no meetings allowed on Friday afternoons. ITR hosts quarterly, but optional, “mix-it up lunches” to give employees the opportunity to get to know one another.

ITR provides new hires with recommendations on how to set a remote schedule and routine to separate work time and personal time. An online orientation course reinforces prioritizing self-care. Prior to their start date, new employees are sent company swag, welcome supplies, handwritten welcome notes from HR and their manager as well as their onboarding schedule for their first two weeks. On their first day, they are welcomed via ITR’s virtual Watercooler chat and attend department meetings and various virtual social events.

For Mental Health Awareness Month in May, ITR sends a care package to each employee that includes positive affirmation cards, resources available through the insurance and Employee Assistance Program, and fun “pick-me-up” items. ITR created internal chat groups on such topics as outdoor recreation, yoga, a book club and home renovations.

At each quarterly staff meeting, each department’s weekly average hours are discussed and any outliers or concerning trends addressed with solutions to reduce those hours. Among the company’s perks are 18 to 33 days of paid time-off annually, profit sharing and a company-paid $3,000 HRA card to pay for copays and other health-related expenses. ITR also pays bonuses of $600 to $8,000 and extra time off for milestone anniversaries, including a four-week sabbatical or $10,000 at 20 years of employment.
