Rob Dapice spent the last decade helping people secure affordable housing, first as managing director for NH Housing’s Management and Development Division and then as CEO of the organization. New Hampshire Housing is a public corporation that promotes, finances, and supports housing solutions for people across the state.
New Hampshire’s housing shortage is making it difficult for many people to afford rent or to buy a home. “We’re unlikely to see a real drop soon in the market rate for rents,” Dapice says, explaining the shortage of housing units, single family homes included, in NH has reached a crisis point. “What we are seeing is a flattening of people’s ability to pay and people are making lifestyle choices and not buying homes at the same point in their lives as they were in the past.”
As part of NH Housing’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, Dapice helped lead the effort to create NH Housing’s Shelter Modification Program and the Emergency Assistance Loan Fund. “Our staff has been doing important and difficult work making sure seniors and people with disabilities can maintain their homes once they’re in them,” Dapice says.
“I’m proud of the role New Hampshire Housing has played in the state well before my arrival,” Dapice says, adding that NH Housing serves a crucial role in helping people understand the housing market and the links between housing and the state’s economy.
