40 Influential Leaders - Anthony Poore

Anthony Poore
President and CEO of the NH Center for Justice and Equity

Anthony Poore has spent his career helping to build up communities and fighting for social justice. He served as director of regional and community outreach at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, as assistant dean at Southern NH University and executive director of NH Humanities. He served on the boards of the NH Community Loan Fund, NH Endowment for Health and NH Housing.

He has brought all that experience to his latest endeavor as the founding president and CEO of the NH Center for Justice and Equity, which seeks to “elevate and empower people of color in New Hampshire by fostering connections, changing systems, and meeting community needs to make a better Granite State where all belong.”

The center, he says, wants to ensure everyone can fulfill their expectations for themselves and for the broader community while also educating people about the barriers and acts of racism that stand in the way of progress.

He says data shows “we don’t have an equitable experience in New Hampshire. Our outcomes are not the same. We’re talking about our communities of color but also focusing on the LGBTQI community as well as those from our disabilities community. We exist not only to bring to light that outcomes are not the same but to effect the change we want.”

The center’s work has included providing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training to law enforcement agencies across the state. In January, the center will launch a new DEI directory so people can find organizations statewide focused on that work.
