The Southern NH Planning Commission in Concord received a $30,000 grant from the NH Charitable Foundation in Concord for education and advocacy related to encouraging the expansion commuter rail from Boston to both Nashua and Manchester.

Varney succeeds Pam Hall, who served as president and CEO for the last 28 years and remains CEO as well as chair of the board of directors. Varney formerly worked as the New England regional administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and as commissioner of the NH Department of Environmental Services before coming to Nomandeau in 2009 as executive vice president.
