Published Friday Sep 20, 2013

And then there were six. The 2013 TechOut competition is underway and the six finalists who will now compete for $100,000 in prize money have been named. TechOut is New Hampshire’s largest startup competition, providing half a million dollars in financing to be used over the next five years. The second annual event will be held on September 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Brady Sullivan building on Southwood Drive in Nashua. The 2013 finalists are as follows:

  • ApplyKit (Manchester) allows students to manage the entire college selection and application proces;
  • Blok Box (Lebanon) offers a remotely-controlled disabling device that provides leasing companies with immediate enforcement control of any electrical equipment;
  • CranioVation (Concord) the first brain aneurysm clip that does not obscure MRI and CT images;
  • Kinetic Surface Control (Newmarket) is an industrial and military corrosion and surface treatment cleaning and profiling services organization;
  • StreakMedia (Boston, Mass.) addresses the untapped inbox-based market at universities across the country; and
  • UltraCell (Manchester) a patented cellulose insulation with performance advantages for installer and an inherent savings in product costs.

The NH High Tech Council and the abi Innovation Hub came together to present this year’s TechOut. The competition is open to companies that have been in business for fewer than three years, raised less than $250,000 in funding and have less than $250,000 in revenue. The competition awards $100,000 in prize money: first place receives $50,000, second place $30,000 and third place $20,000. A panel of judges awards the top two prizes and the third prize, $20,000 cash, is decided entirely by the audience the night of the event. Registration is open until September 24 at abihub.org.
