No Dog Days of Summer Here

Personally, I holler for Halloween and get crazy at Christmas, but professionally, I have to admit, we are entering my favorite time of year. While it gets nutty, I love the projects we work on now through the end of the year.

We just wrapped up our annual list of the Top 100 Private Companies for the September issue, and while I can’t spill the beans, there are a dozen new companies on the list and our Fast Five—the companies with the highest three-year revenue growth rate on the list—are sure to raise eyebrows.

Meanwhile, the deadline to get in on the Top Woman-Led Businesses and Nonprofits in NH is quickly approaching. We debuted the list of the Top Woman-Led Businesses last year and it will be expanded for 2013 with a separate list of Top Woman-Led Nonprofits.

In 2007, NH had 36,000 woman-owned businesses—about 25 percent of all businesses, just below the national rate of 28 percent, according to The NH Women’s Initiative. So if your company or nonprofit is led by a woman (we are not limiting the list to ownership), help us shine a spotlight on the economic might that women wield in our state by filling out the survey at www.BusinessNHmagazine.com by Aug. 13.

We will reveal the 2013 lists in the October issue of Business NH Magazine, though you can get a sneak peak at our Ultimate Biz(NH) Bash. For six years, we have hosted the Top 100 Private Companies in NH reception. This year, we are blowing the doors off this popular event and including both the Top Family-Owned Businesses in NH and the Top Woman-Led Businesses.

Among my favorite competitions that we host is the Best Companies to Work For. It’s our chance to highlight the innovative ways companies are attracting and retaining top talent. Don’t miss your opportunity to be recognized; complete your application by Aug. 26. (It’s on the competitions page of our website.)

This month we are also kicking off a new feature in Biz Bits. Sometimes life piles it on, and those piles end up on your desk. We’re looking for the messiest desks in NH. If you think you or a coworker is the king or queen of clutter, then send us a picture. We’ll feature a winning entry, anonymously, each month in the magazine and give him or her a gift certificate (that could be used toward, oh I don’t know, cleaning supplies or storage units.)

We hope you enjoy these features as much as we do.
