CONCORD, N.H. The New Hampshire Lotterysold more than $16.9 million in Instant tickets in March 2013, marking the highest monthly sales for Instant tickets in a non-holiday month in its 50-year history.

March was a great month for lottery ticket sales and an exceptional month for the state of New Hampshire as robust Instant ticket sales translated into increased revenue for education, said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Lottery. Lottery sales have steadily grown over the past two years and we areon pace to have record Instant ticket sales this year. Lottery players are showing an increased demand for our Instant ticket products as they are spending more of their discretionary dollars on playing our games. Ultimately it's the school children of New Hampshire that benefit themost, as the Lottery has contributed more than $1.5 billion toward education since it began.

According to lottery sales reports, for fiscal year '13, instant ticket sales are up more than 11% over last year.

We made significant improvements to our Instant ticket program over the past several years providing a 10% sales commission for lottery ticket agents on new ticket sales. This has provided incentive for the retailers to work even harder at increasing their sales, and the response has been phenomenal, said Maura McCann, Director ofMarketing and Advertising for the New Hampshire Lottery. In addition, we have increased prize payouts for players, and we've freshened up our product line by launching new games at the beginning of every month both of which are getting great feedback from our players. This winning combination is reflected in huge sales increases and even greater revenue back to the state of New Hampshire.

McCann added that in calendar year 2012, New Hampshire ranked 15th of 43 state lotteries in per capita sales. In per capita Instant ticket sales, New Hampshire was ranked 9th of the 43, and of the New England states was ranked 3rd in per capita Instant sales behind Massachusetts and Connecticut.

In terms of highest percentage increase of per capita Instant sales, New Hampshire ranked 8th highest of the 43 state lotteries. New Hampshire was the only state in New England in the top10 list of state lotteries showing an increase in Instant sales, making it the fastest growing lottery in New England.

Earlier this year, the New Hampshire Lottery reached another sales milestone, surpassing a total of $5 billion in lottery ticket sales since the lottery began in 1964. According to lottery officials, overall ticket sales for fiscal year '13 to date are up 16%, compared to an 11% increase in fiscal year '12.

During fiscal year '12 the New Hampshire Lottery gave $159 million back to Lottery players in the form of prizes, and Lottery retailers earned a total of $14.8 million in sales commissions.

As the New Hampshire Lottery approaches its 50th year selling lottery tickets, we are very proud of our success and we are committed and dedicated to continuing to help strengthen the future of our state, said McIntyre. I want to commend the Lottery commissioners, our hardworking staff, and all our Lottery players and retailers for helping to increase our sales, and enabling us to provide even greater revenue to education in the state of New Hampshire.
