New Business Plan Competition

Published Thursday Nov 13, 2008

Do you think you have a business plan that could be the next NH success story, but you need some expert advice and start-up funds? If so, the Manchester Young Professional's Network (MYPN) wants you.

The MYPN and Southern NH University (SNHU) partnered to create the NH Start-up Challenge to encourage and promote new businesses in the Manchester area. The program offers both a prize package and an entrepreneurial institute. Participants have the chance to win $25,000, free office space, accounting services and legal advice.

Twenty people will be chosen, 10 focusing on traditional entrepreneurship and 10 on social entrepreneurship. The participants will take part in a 10-week Entrepreneurship Institute taught at SNHU culminating in a business plan competition. Two winners, one a for-profit business and one a socially responsible business plan, will be selected.

We're especially proud of this new program, particularly because of its focus on education, training and empowering young professionals who are interested in starting their own businesses, says Joe Kenney, vice president of commercial lending at Ocean Bank, a MYPN board member and chair of the program.

Executive summaries of proposed business plans are due Nov. 17 and winners will be announced Dec. 8. For more information, visit www.mypn.org/startup.
