Members First Credit Union Breaks Ground on Bedford Branch

Published Friday Aug 7, 2015

Members First Credit Union  has broken ground on its newest branch in Bedford. The new branch will be located at 136 Bedford Center Road, off Route 101, and is scheduled to open in early 2016.

The credit union’s board of directors and senior management marked the milestone with a ground breaking ceremony, which included remarks by Bruce Leighton, president and CEO of Members First Credit Union, NH Senator Lou D’Allesandro, chairman of the institution’s board of directors, Judy Walsh-Heminger, a member of the credit union’s supervisory committee and daughter of founder John Walsh, and Ashlee Lewer, a member of the board of directors and John Walsh’s great-granddaughter.

“Bedford offers a great opportunity for Members First to expand its membership,” said Bruce Leighton.  “With our mortgage lending, Rewards Checking, high-yield certificates of deposit and very competitive rates on auto and personal loans, we offer tremendous value as a credit union. As a not-for-profit institution, we’re more interested in providing affordable financial services to our members and giving them the opportunity to improve their lives.”

Board Chair and Senator Lou D’Allesandro added, “We are positioned to grow and Bedford presents us with a wonderful opportunity. It is the right place to expand at the right time. Visibility from Route 101 is perfect as well as the traffic flow. This is a very exciting move for the Credit Union.”

“My father, John Walsh, lived on Bedford Center Road with me so this area is very near and dear to my heart,” said Judy Walsh-Heminger. “Bedford is growing and the credit union has so many services to offer. It is an ideal combination. This would be his dream come true.”

Ashlee Lewer said, “Members First started out of my great-grandfather’s briefcase. It was personal to him, and it remains very personal for us. Small business in Bedford is great and the community is growing, with a fantastic school system and wonderful families. Bedford offers that small community feeling and I think that’s the feeling you get when you come to Members First. It’s a great place for us to feel at home and hopefully our members can feel at home here in Bedford, too.”

Members First Credit Union’s new branch will serve Bedford and surrounding communities. For information about Members First Credit Union and how to become a member, visit www.membersfirstnh.org.
