The turbulent economy has companies scrambling to find savings wherever they can and Leading Edge Design Group has grown its business by helping them save on energy costs. This year, the firm conducted energy efficient lighting upgrades for Hypertherm in Hanover, Associated Grocers of New England in Pembroke and University of Southern Maine that it estimates will save the organizations, in total, $200,000 annually in energy costs.

2012 has been great. We've been experiencing growth. Year-to-date, revenue is up 95 percent, says Principal Todd Boucher.

Leading Edge has also completed projects for Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and Harvard University. The firm, which is based in Enfield with an office in Ridgefield, Conn., primarily serves clients in New England, but within the next five years, Boucher plans to increase the company's footprint domestically to the mid-Atlantic states. It's already reaching out to international markets by opening an office in South Africa in August with three employees. There's a significant energy shortage in South Africa, Boucher says. We believe there is a strong opportunity for growth in South Africa.

Leading Edge is also bringing its services to the nonprofit sector through its new Get Green program, whereby it donates an energy efficiency upgrade. Its first project, which included a lighting retrofit, was donated to AVA Gallery in Lebanon.

The demand for the services we offer is continuing to increase and receive prioritization from corporations. People realize the best investments they can make is in reducing energy consumption, Boucher says.
