Published Thursday Jan 23, 2014

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) board of directors appointed Michael C. Whitney to serve as the interim president until a new president is named. Starting February 10, Whitney will be responsible for the overall management of the organization and its staff. In addition, he will oversee the development and implementation of GMCC’s programs and budgets.

Whitney is a long time resident of Manchester and an integral part of the community. He is managing director of The Daymark Group, LLC, a financial advisory firm that advises privately-owned companies on strategic and transactional issues. He serves on the board for the Union Leader Corporation, Centrix Bank and NH Center for Public Policy Studies. Whitney is also chair of the trustees at the Norwin S. & Elizabeth N. Bean Foundation.

Ronald H. Covey, Jr, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Bank in Manchester and chair of GMCC board, explained that Whitney has been active in the Chamber for more than 30 years as a past board member and chair of the board. The press release issued stated Whitney's experience and knowledge of the organization would allow him to seamlessly transition into the role.

“Mike embodies all of the qualities and characteristics to be an influential leader and a successful steward of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce until a permanent president is named,” said Covey. “He is a connecter to the business community and widely respected in political circles. Mike also understands the important role of nonprofit organizations and how they help serve our region.”

“Since its inception, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has been a vital and important part of our community,” said Whitney. “I’m delighted to support the Chamber during the critical process of selecting a new leader.”

With Whitney at the helm, GMCC will begin the search for its next President. The individual will be responsible for the management of GMCC’s two governing bodies, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. They will also carry the primary responsibility for the development of the budget and management of all finances on a day to day basis. The President will supervise planning for all GMCC programs and the development of its staff.
