Nowadays, almost everyone worries about what will happen to their job. The prospect of not knowing if you will be downsized can be very stressful. Here is a list of techniques and suggestions on managing that fear.

The first step to develop is the habit of continually updating your skills. Learning how to use the latest software are ways to keep abreast in the market. Continuing education classes in your specific field of work will also help. If you do lose your job, you will have ths skills to compete with others for today's jobs.

Communicate on with your employer and coworkers regularly. That communication should give you a general idea on how safe your job is. Knowing where you stand in your company can help predict whether your job is safe. Always keep the lines of communication open in your work environment.

Sometimes we tend to exaggerate when we start to worry. Instead of worrying about what could happen, try to focus on the facts of a certain situation. Do not assume anything and do not focus on your negative thoughts. In fact, read something uplifting that will make you feel more positive and better about the situation.

Take it day by day. Do not worry about what may happen next week or next month. Things change all the time and it is almost impossible to predict the future. Do the best you can today.

Some people get depressed and have a difficult time getting out of bed in the morning. When or if this happens to you, take a deep breath and find something to get your mind off of the problem. Take a walk, listen to music, read the newspaper or do an activity that brings a fresh perspective on things. Taking action, any action, can get your mind off of the problem and give you confidence to do other things.

Last, if you have trouble managing your anxiety about possibly becoming unemployed, talk to a counselor. Remember that people lose their jobs all the time and they are able to find other jobs. Never let your fears and worries get the better of you.
