Cindy Kibbe’s article entitled “Fueling the Future” in the April issue closes with the comment: “Experts say it could be a decade or more before fuel cell-powered cars are seen on the road.” That conclusion is a decade behind the times.
In 2008, our Maine and Manchester-based Hydrogen Energy Center hosted nine fuel cell-powered vehicles from as many manufacturers at the start of a cross-county tour. I have friends who drive the fuel cell-powered Honda Clarity, Toyota Highlander and Chevy Equinox.
Hyundai, in February of this year, started manufacturing its fuel cell-powered ix35 SUV as a production vehicle.
It may be a decade before fuel cell-powered vehicles are common, but make no mistake, they are on the road today.
