Doug Dean, retired president and CEO of Elliot Health System in Manchester, was reappointed as interim CEO. He succeeds Gary Muller, who assumed the role of interim CEO in July 2016 but resigned just a few weeks later.

“I’ve been with Elliot for over 19 years and I love it and have a deep respect for the doctors and staff; that’s what draws me out of retirement,” says Dean. “I look forward to re-engaging with people I have a profound respect for."

Dean, who retired in June of 2014 and had since been working as a consultant to the Elliot's board of directors, will work as CEO while the board continues a national search for a long-term president and CEO. He will assist with strategies to grow Elliot’s growth relationships in the healthcare industry and support the management team.

“We want to be deliberate in our process and take the time necessary to make the best decision possible. However, while that search is underway, the Board recognizes its continuing fiduciary duty to the health system and the community to ensure that the Elliot has all of the tools necessary to continue its mission,” says Jim Hood, chair of the board. “[Dean] has graciously agreed to come out of retirement for a period of time...[and we] feel strongly that [his] previous long term service to Elliot, his intimate knowledge of the community, as well as his relationships with leaders throughout the state will be an asset to us during this time.”
