DRED Commissioner Announces Retirement

Commissioner George Bald today announced his retirement from the NH Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED) effective Nov. 1, in a letter to Gov. John Lynch. He has served nearly 13 years as DRED commissioner.
 
Bald began his government career when he was elected mayor of Somersworth at the age of 27. At that time he was the youngest mayor in the state. After serving as mayor for six years, Bald went to work for the city of Rochester, serving as director of economic development, as well as city manager. He was hired by the Pease Development Authority in 1994 and assisted in the redevelopment of the Pease Air Base in Portsmouth.
 
In his letter to Gov. Lynch, Bald wrote, I can't thank you enough for your support and encouragement over the past six years The opportunity to work with the DRED Team has been a wonderful experience. They are some of the hardest working people I have ever met.
