Physical Apps Debuts TheO Smartdisk at NYC Toy Fair

Published Tuesday Feb 18, 2014

Physical Apps, developer of TheO Smartball (physicalapps.com/theo-smartball), a toy that melds smart devices and specially-designed mobile apps to create an entertaining and active experience, will debut their newest innovation, TheO Smartdisk, at Toy Fair, February 16 to 19, in New York City.

TheO Smartball was the talk of Toy Fair in 2012 for its groundbreaking integration of smart devices into a real-world toy. This year, TheO Smartdisk is sure to capture the attention of show-goers as – for the first time – they explore the realm of collaborative/competitive mobile gaming.

TheO Smartdisk is the first tabletop, mobile-enabled game system which allows multiple players to play together or compete against one another on a single mobile device – it also allows multiple teams to compete against each other locally or with other teams remotely over the internet. Like TheO Smartball, players download apps to their Apple or Android mobile devices, including iPods, smartphones and tablets, insert the device in the TheO Smartdisk, a tabletop platform that players can tilt, spin and slide for exciting, collaborative and competitive gameplay.

“We are excited to be back at Toy Fair with our newest offering, TheO Smartdisk,” said Rick Malagodi, CEO. “People of all ages who’ve tried TheO ball, love it – they roll it, bounce it, toss it, and simply have a blast with the various games. TheO Smartdisk is a different experience, but continues our mission of creating fun, interactive, games that friends and families can enjoy together.”

Apps developed specifically for TheO Smartdisk take advantage of the technology onboard mobile devices, including sensors to detect disk movement; speakers for music, voice, and sound effects; screens to show gameplay; and connectivity to enable competition.

TheO Smartdisk will debut with three games: Improv Trivia, a competitive trivia game full of laughs; 3D Labyrinth – a collaborative/competitive game in which players maneuver a ball through a series of challenging mazes; and Space Race, a group challenge in which players steer their spaceships through an obstacle course in a race against other spaceships.

TheO Smartdisk will retail for $49.95, including the three introductory apps, and is expected to be available in May. Pre-orders will be accepted online throughout Toy Fair at www.physicalapps.com/toyfair and all pre-orders placed through March 31 will qualify for a 30 percent discount
