W.S. Badger is a leading example of creating a family friendly business. It provides five weeks of paid parental leave for fathers and mothers. Its “Babies-at-Work” program allows parents to bring babies to the company until they are six months old or begin crawling. The company also subsidizes tuition for day care at a nearby facility that Badger established in 2013, which serves children six months to three years old. Badger also allows employees to work a 9/80 compressed work schedule or 80 hours over nine days.

The company provides employees a kitchen and an onsite chef who prepares a daily organic lunch served in a communal dining area. The entire company shuts down for 30 minutes daily so people can enjoy the meal together, including fresh, in-season produce from the Badger gardens. The gardens also make for an enjoyable stroll.

The company makes a donation in the name of each employee to a charity of his or her choosing. New employees receive a care package with Badger swag valued at $100. Employees also receive free products quarterly and an employee discount year-round.

W.S. Badger shares 7% of its profits with employees as an added bonus that is divided equally among all employees based on hours worked per year.

Badger’s atmosphere of well being features onsite yoga classes, a meditation room, an onsite gym and chair massages every other Friday. Badger also provides an annual wellness fund that reimburses full-time employees for health and wellness-related expenses, including massages, exercise classes and sports and outdoor equipment.

These perks are part of the company’s commitment to being a certified B Corporation that puts purpose on par with profits by benefitting employees, the community and the environment.
