40 Influential Leaders - Oreste Rusty Mosca

Oreste Rusty Mosca
Director of Nathan Wechsler & Company

Oreste “Rusty” Mosca has had two jobs in his life. The first made him almost leave accounting after just two years. The second is the one he’s been at for more than 20 years at the accounting firm Nathan Wechsler.

That first job, at a firm with a large, modern building and clients all over the country, should have dazzled a kid from Berlin. “For me, it was all about, ‘how do I make an impact on businesses?’” Mosca says he found that at Nathan Wechsler, which specializes in local businesses and nonprofits. “Those businesses provide those families with an opportunity to have good careers and a good financial outcome,” Mosca says.

Mosca had just started at Nathan Wechsler when he was appointed to the board of directors for The Teen Institute, dedicated to giving young people more confidence and useful skill sets. Over the years, Mosca has served on boards of about 15 nonprofit organizations. He’s currently about to close his term on the board for the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, and is on the boards of Amoskeag Community Health and Concord-based CATCH Neighborhood Housing.

The cost of housing, he says, is the biggest risk to continued prosperity. “It’s very expensive to live in New Hampshire,” Mosca says. “There are good things happening. There’s a lot of optimism. We need to keep young people in the state to create opportunities and preserve the vibrancy of the state.”
