Upstart Startups: RentVue

Two brothers who saw the challenges and opportunities in property management have created a platform that simplifies the process of maintenance on rental property.

The CEO and COO of RentVue in Goffstown, David and Jesse Normand, want to replace what they consider an outdated fee-based property management model with a full-service automated property management tool allowing owners to address issues from the palm of their hand.

RentVue.com is a task-based platform where owners can purchase just the services they need as they need them, including maintenance and emergency services, leasing services, landscaping, inspections and eviction services. “It costs nothing to get on the platform,” says David. “You only pay for what you use.”

He says a customer might want their property inspected twice a month with approval to do all maintenance up to a certain level, say $250. Any service above the limit can also be approved from the app. “Collecting rent is the easiest thing to do,” says David, adding it is the other aspects of property management that can be burdensome, such as dealing with a broken pipe. “With our network we can have someone there in under two hours versus six, and the difference in the cost of a water damage incident could easily be $15,000,” he says.

David’s desire to help smaller investors was inspired in part when he was onsite doing some property maintenance and overheard a real estate agent sharing “grandiose ideas” with a prospective investor.

“I knew the city would require significant steel work and told them to check into it. When the investor backed off, the agent called me and she said, ‘You need to keep your mouth shut,’” says David. “It was a revelation moment. No matter what, the property manager and agent are guaranteed payment but not the owner. This was an old-school system that needed to go.”

RentVue participated in the NH Tech Alliance Innovation Summit 2020 along with six other local startups and won the People’s Choice Award.
