Michelle Hilger says her parents always considered her to be a human mongoose—hence the name of her company—Mongoose Power Solutions—founded in 2019. “I wouldn't let anything go; I'd be shaking a snake even when it's dead,” says Hilger, chief connector of Mongoose Power Solutions (MPH) located in Spofford. “I was very persistent, and I still am.”
Hilger’s persistence took her from Denver, Colorado, where she worked as a sales manager for a laboratory providing oil, coolant and diesel fuel analysis, to NH and a thriving company. MPH, which has eight employees, has grown sales more than 1,800% between 2020 and 2022.
In Denver, Hilger says she was fascinated by the tanks containing diesel fuel that supply back-up power for the emergency power systems at hospitals, cell phone towers, data centers and other businesses relying on a steady flow of electricity. “Our world doesn't operate well when we don't have power, and this industry provides that backup power when the utility goes down,” she says.
MPH provides diesel fuel treatment and remediation to make sure the fuel in those tanks is combustible. That work funds the advocacy and education efforts for service providers and generator manufacturers with her school, Onsite Power Academy, a training program designed to support career tracks within the industry. Hilger wants to be an advocate and a liaison connecting generator servicers and manufacturers.
MPH has the first-of-its-kind full-time generator training facility in the country, and Hilger says she wants to grow her core mission as an educator and trainer in the industry. To that end, Mongoose recently sponsored a race car in the NASCAR Infinity Series. “That was to help get our name out for the [academy],” Hilger says. “It’s all about building up that market and letting people know that we actually exist."
