Third Annual GO RED FOR WOMEN Luncheon Next Week

Published Wednesday Nov 12, 2008

The American Heart Association's 3rd Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, November 19 at the Radisson in downtown Manchester. The expected 450 guests will enjoy a luncheon speaker program, emceed by WMUR Channel 9's Kria Sakakeeny and WZID's Nancy Robbins, educational workshops, health screenings and special survivor stories shared by local women survivors.

Katy McGrath, vice president and director of corporate communications of Charter Trust Company in Concord, is this year's event chairwoman. "The mission of the Go Red for Women campaign to educate women about the risk of heart disease is critical."

McGrath and her committee have set a fundraising goal of $125,000. Through corporate sponsorships, foundation gifts, and individual gifts, the event exceeded its $50,000 goal last year, raising a record-setting $86,000 to support the AHA's life-saving research, education and advocacy efforts.

This year's speakers include 10 local women survivors who will share snippets of their inspiring stories as well as Barbara Roberts, MD and director of the Women's Cardiac Center at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI.

Three breakout sessions, including At Peace with Food, Common Myths about Cardiovascular Disease and Women's Health, and Talk Money will be presented by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Charter Trust Company. Free health screenings will be provided by Exeter Hospital.
