Pierce Atwood in Portsmouth has hired Attorney Christopher Frerking  as special patent counsel in the Intellectual Property & Technology Group. He is also joining Pierce Atwood at the same time as he joins the University of New Hampshire School of Law as professor of law and director of its patent practice and procedure program.

The newly transformed Pandora Mill in Manchester welcomed its first occupant, UNH Manchester, for the start of fall courses in September 2012. The first floor of the Pandora Mill became hame to the college's computing technology and engineering programs, as well as the UNH Graduate School's Manchester campus. The renovated space will provide the college with an additional 22,000 square feet beyond the current location at 400 Commercial Street. The expansion will include 10 classrooms and labs, faculty offices, and several student common areas and study spaces.

Upton & Hatfield in Concord announced Attorney Lauren Simon Irwin was elected as chair of the gender equality committee of the New Hampshire Bar Association, which was created by the Bar Association to support efforts to discover existing biases and to work to remedy barriers to women's equal opportunities in NH.

Nanocomp Technologies, a developer of performance materials and component products made from carbon nanotubes, opened new headquarters in Merrimack, marking the completion of the first phase of a planned 100,000 square foot expansion, based in part on investments from the Defense Production Act Title III.  The new facility manufactures high performance, strong and conductive CNT-based products at an unprecedented scale for customers including the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and a growing number of major commercial corporations.

UNH Manchester's Dean Ali Rafieymehr announced the appointment of Jeremy Hitchcock, CEO of DYN in Manchester, and Dr. Thomas Brennan, superintendent of the Manchester School District, to the college's advisory board.

A recent $5,000 grant awarded by the New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation, based in Plymouth, will help support the Winnipesaukee River Trail Association in connecting the multi-use trails in Franklin/Northfield to the trails in Tilton via the construction of a new bridge.
