NH Public Television, based in Durham, received Boston/New England Emmy awards recently. "Savings Songbirds," a "Windows to the Wild" special that documented migratory birds and the individuals dedicated to saving them, won for outstanding environmental program. The NHPTV Counts campaign, created to advise viewers about funding issues, won for outstanding public service campaign announcement. NHPTV was also nominated in in three other categories for awards: Steve Giordani for outstanding photographer of "Saving Songbirds," Willem Lange for outstanding program host for "Windows to the Wild," and Schuyler Scribner for outstanding graphic artist for "Tuck's Gift."

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon was designated a "Baby-Friendly" birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA, a global program sponsored by the World Health Program and the United Nations Children's Fund. The designation recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The award is achieved through the practice of the organization's "10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" guide, which includes metrics on breastfeeding rates and staff education.

Brian Goetz joined Tighe & Bond, Inc. in Portsmouth as a project manager. Goetz will also serve as the technical specialist for all water resources and supply projects within the firm's practice group. Goetz has 12 years of experience working with public water systems in NH and Mass., and Maine, and is a past president of the NH Water Works Association. He is the current chairman of the New England Water Works Association's Water Resources Committee.

Keene State College in Keene and the University of NH in Durham were recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency at the Northeast Resource Recovery Association's 31st Annual Northeast Recycling Conference held in Manchester. The schools were honored for joining EPA's Food Recovery Challenge, an initiative aimed at reducing food waste through composting.

Norman Mancusi, owner of Mancusi Builders LLC in Hampstead, earned a Master Certified Green Professional educational designation from the National Association of Homebuilders.

New England College in Henniker appointed Mark Watman as interim VP for academic affairs. Watman is an associate professor of writing and director of the Master of Arts in Professional Writing program at the college. He has been a member of the writing faculty for seven years.

Four members were re-elected to the board of directors of the NH Electric Cooperative, based in Plymouth: Kenneth A. Colburn, Dave Talbot, Sharon Davis, and Charles R. Braxton.

The wealth management firm Lake Street Advisors relocated its Portsmouth office to 25 Chestnut Street in downtown Portsmouth.

Heather Leach, VP-commercial loan officer of Centrix Bank's Milford office, received a 2012 Business Leader of the Year award from the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce at the 24th Annual Award Celebration. Leach was honored for her outstanding leadership in the Milford and Souhegan Valley communities and for her assistance to organizations such as the Milford School District and the Milford Economic Development Advisory Council.

The NH Granite State Ambassadors honored their outstanding volunteers at the 14th Annual AMBIE Awards Ceremony held in Bedford. Lorraine Charron of Manchester was Granite State Ambassador of the Year for her more than 2,000 hours of volunteer service. Kate and Gary Bashline of Seabrook Beach received the NHGSA Service Award and Susan Geyer of Merrimack received the NHGSA Hospitality from the Heart Award. Amy Bassett, assistant director of the NH Division of Travel and Tourism Development awarded citations from Governor John Lynch to the NHGSA Future Leaders of NH honorees: Dylan Crepeau, Maison D'Amelio, Royce D'Amelio, and Allison Demirjian.

People's United Community Foundation, an arm of People's United Bank, awarded $17,000 to nonprofits in the state during the second quarter of 2012. Recipients included: The CareGivers, Inc. in Bedford, Maguerites Place, Inc. in Nashua, Girls Incorporated of NH in Manchester, the NH Association for the Blind in Concord, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western NH in Keene. The foundation has three areas of focus: community development, youth development, and affordable housing. People's United Bank NH headquarters are in Portsmouth.

Sandy Fay of Mason + Rich Professional Association in Concord was named to the board of directors of the Parenting Information Center in Concord as treasurer. Fay previously served on the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce Funds for Education Golf Tournament committee.

The NH Historical Society in Concord elected trustees and officers to its board. Elected as new trustees were Edward "Terry" E. Shumaker, a member of the law firm of Bernstein Shur in Manchester, and Pamela D. VanArsdale, a founding member of the Bedford Land Trust. Trustees re-elected for additional terms were: Barbara A Pitsch, Susan P. Sloan, Michael C. Sununu, and Kurt M. Swenson. Officers elected were: Barbara A. Pitsch, president; David H. Souter, VP; Michael C. Sununu, treasurer; and Jane C. Nylander, secretary.
