The City of Manchester will hold the 2nd Annual Manchester Small Business Week, presented by Citizens Bank, from May 21-25. The week will be kicked-off by the Small Business Forum & Luncheon on May 21st, held at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester and sponsored by Comcast Spotlight. The event will focus on overcoming the challenges facing small business in the state, and will include remarks by Senator Kelly Ayotte and New York Times journalist and author Amy Cortese. The event will also include a small business panel moderated by New Hampshire Business host Fred Kocher.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture allocated a $12,093,000 package of grants and loans to a wastewater treatment project in Conway. The award will fund the construction of a pipeline from Conway Village's wastewater plant to a North Conway plant and will update the Village plant's system technology to improve water quality. The project is intended to lift the moratorium on building permits in the Village that the state initiated due to the previous lack of adequate wastewater treatment capacity.

Piscataqua Savings Bank in Portsmouth announced three new positions. Jeannine Santosuosso joined the bank as benefits/payroll/HR administrator. Santosuosso previously served at Medtronic Advanced Energy in Portsmouth. Laura Griswold was promoted to loan department assistant after having served as a teller at the bank since 2008. Prior to this position, she served as assistant manager of the Prescott Park Arts Festival in Portsmouth. Sarah Boutin filled the teller position vacated by Griswold. Boutin previously served at Healthcare Administrative Partners and TD Bank in Portsmouth.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord was included in the guidebooks of global travel information company Lonely Planet through the Recommended by Lonely Planet 2012 program. Selection for inclusion is based on positive reviews from guidebook authors who have visited the site.

The board of directors of Granite United Way announced its 2012 funded programs. The board approved $3.54 million in program grants for 200 programs and initiatives throughout the organization's network in NH and Vermont. An additional $1.8 million in donor-directed funds will be distributed to local community partners including nonprofits Upper Valley Strong, 2-1-1 NH, and IRS-run Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Programs. The total $5.34 million investment is a $90,000 increase from the previous funding year.

Senator Bob Odell received a Humane State Legislature award from the Humane Society of the U.S. for his work on animal welfare legislation in 2011. The Humane Society recognizes state legislators each year who have initiated groundbreaking animal protection legislation and significantly advanced reform in the policy-making arena. Senator Odell is specifically being honored for his sponsorship of S.B. 55, a bill that would require a bittering agent to be added to antifreeze to make it unpalatable to pets and children.

Centrix Bank ranked #97 in SNL Financial's annual list of the top 100 Best Performing Community Banks in the U.S. SNL, a national financial services reporting organization, defined community banks as financial institutions with between $500 million and $5 billion in assets and fewer than 60 offices. This is the second consecutive year that Centrix has been included in the annual ranking. The bank has offices in Bedford, Concord, Dover, Manchester, Milford, and Portsmouth.

Bruce Felmly of the law firm of McLane, Grauf, Raulerson & Middleton was chosen as this year's recipient of the Manchester Bar Association's Distinguished Service Award. Felmly, who serves as co-chair of McLane's litigation department, was honored for his outstanding service to the profession and practice of law. Felmly is a Fellow of The American College of Trial Lawyers and is active in the NH Bar Association. In 2002, Felmly received the Award for Distinguished Service to the Legal Profession from the NH Bar Association.

William A. Phillips was named the store manager of TD Bank's Winchester office. Phillips joins banking after a career in the building products industry, during which he served as territory manager at GAF Decking Systems. He has also served at Armstrong World Industries and American Olean Ceramic Tile.

The nonprofit Stay Work Play, based in Manchester, launched a new statewide internship website, NH-Internships.com. The site provides free information about current internship opportunities across the state for local students and working professionals.

The New England Helicopter Council presented its 2012 Safety Award to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART), an air ambulance service in Lebanon, and its aviation services provider, Metro Aviation, Inc., at the council's annual meeting in April. The award recognizes individuals and groups for excellence in rotorcraft aviation safety and honors those who have displayed outstanding service on behalf of safety education. DHART and Metro Aviation were specifically recognized for their use of state-of-the-art tools and their focus on innovative technology. DHART began in 1994 and operates helicopters at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon and at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester.

The Northeast Delta Dental Foundation awarded a $3,000 grant to Concord Hospital as part of its ongoing effort to help address oral health access issues. The gift helps the Concord Hospital Family Health Center Dental Clinic purchase dental and denture supplies. Northeast Delta Dental Foundation has provided grants to oral health programs in Maine, NH, and Vt. since 1995.
