From regional leadership programs to the statewide Leadership NH, there are a number of strategies aimed at engaging leaders in their communities. But Stay Work Play NH has launched a plan to build leadership among those still in the early stages of their careers. “We see this program being complementary to the other leadership programs and to be a feeder program for those,” says Stay Work Play Executive Director Will Stewart of the Rising Stars Leadership Program, which is designed to help young professionals build deeper connections to NH, while helping employers attract and retain young talent.

“Stay Work Play recently asked young people across New Hampshire what benefits they’re looking for from employers in this COVID-era and beyond. Ninety-two percent of survey respondents said they’re either very interested or interested in professional development opportunities,” he says.

The Rising Stars Leadership Program kicks off this month and will run through June. Sessions include Live Free or Die, which focuses on why NH is a great place to have a career, Moving Mountains and Pushing for Progress.

“The Rising Stars Leadership Program was designed for businesses of all sizes to participate and recognize the emerging leaders within their organizations,” says E.J. Powers, partner at Montagne Powers, and co-chair of the Stay Work Play board of directors. He adds the program will help small businesses as many are unable to provide in-house professional development.

Sojourn Partners, a Bedford-based executive leadership coaching and organizational development firm, will conduct the training, which will include leadership and communication skills development and problem solving. “This will be an opportunity for young people to make deep connections that will benefit them personally and professionally,” Stewart says.

The program includes in-person classes as well as several virtual coaching sessions. Powers says individuals do not have to apply or be interviewed for the program. Instead, employers must nominate individuals to participate as they are most familiar with the rising stars in their organizations. Tuition is $1,750 for employees of SWP board of advisors members and $2,250 for non-members.
