State Needs Partners for Affordable Housing

Published Thursday Aug 11, 2016

The NH Housing Finance Authority is currently seeking applications from entities including qualified private developers, nonprofit organizations, local housing authorities, municipalities, and others for projects that will create supportive recovery housing for low-and-moderate income persons with substance use disorders.

In response to NH’s opioid epidemic, the State appropriated $2 million dollars for the NHHFA administrated Affordable Housing Fund (AHF). The goal for these program funds is to create safe, affordable housing with services to support residents in recovery. Eligible uses for this financing include acquisition/rehabilitation, new construction or conversion of existing housing into supportive housing.

“Housing is a key stabilizing element for someone moving along their pathway to recovery,” said Dean Christon, executive director of New Hampshire Housing. “New Hampshire Housing is working alongside state and local leaders to get these resources into communities.”

Applicants must demonstrate the ability and intent to provide supportive services to residents recovering from substance use disorders. Each application must increase the supply of supportive recovery housing in the state by rehabilitating existing housing to be used as supportive recovery housing or by constructing new housing.
