NH's Expanding Manufacturers

While manufacturing is one of the largest sectors of NH's economy, it has been hit hard in recent years. New Hampshire Employment Security predicts manufacturing employment will fall 1.4 percent between 2012 and 2022. However that doesn't mean there aren't still manufacturers innovating and growing. We profile six NH manufacturers that have expanded existing NH operations or relocated to the state.

AIRMAR Technology Corporation
Location: 40 Meadowbrook

Expansion: AIRMAR moved into the new 73,000-square-foot facility in November 2013. The original building, still in use, is 75,000 square feet.
Business Description: Established in 1982, AIRMAR designs and manufactures ultrasonic sensor technology for marine and industrial applications. Products include advanced ultrasonic transducers, flow sensors, WeatherStation instruments, and electronic compasses used for a variety of applications including fishing, navigation, meteorology, survey, level measurement, process control and proximity sensing.

FlexEnergy

Expansion: To accommodate its growth, FlexEnergy added a second building at Pease Tradeport. Production in the new 37,000-square-foot building began in March.
Business Description: FlexEnergy designs and builds turbine-powered generators that produce electricity and hot water and can be used in remote locations where no electricity is available or as back up or supplemental power.

GI Plastek
Location: 5 Wickers Drive, Wolfeboro

Expansion: The company added 39,570 square feet to its facility, increasing the building size to 94,000 square feet. The addition, which cost $3.2 million, was occupied in June. The company anticipates adding to its workforce soon as a result.
Business Description: Custom injection molder of medium- to large-sized products for industries including medical and diagnostic equipment, military, industrial, construction, material handling and leisure and recreation.

Lindt USA
Location: 1 Fine Chocolate Place, Stratham

Expansion: The multi-million dollar, 108,000-square-foot addition began this past spring and will nearly double the size of the main building on Lindt’s campus to 1 million square feet when completed within the next few years.
Business Description: Lindt & Sprüngli is a global producer of premium chocolate, offering products in more than 120 countries. The new manufacturing building will house additional premium chocolate production lines to meet company growth.

Mercury Systems
Location: 267 Lowell Road, Hudson, NH

NH Expansion: Mercury Systems, headquartered in Chelmsford, Mass., opened its NH operations in November 2013 in a 72,000-square-foot facility and plans to expand to 100,000 square feet in the near future.    
Business Description: Mercury’s new Advanced Microelectronics Center (AMC) in Hudson designs and produces RF and microwave technologies for prime contractors in the defense industry.
Number of Employees: 160 in Hudson

Teledyne DGO
Location: 162 Corporate Drive, Portsmouth

Expansion: Completed its move from Seabrook to a 66,000-square-foot facility in Portsmouth in December 2013. Teledyne DGO has added 20 employees since the fourth quarter of 2013, with plans to add 20 more by the end of 2014.
Business Description: Manufactures electrical connectors and cable assemblies for use in hazardous environments, primarily subsea. Its markets include submarine construction and maintenance/repair, subsea oil and gas exploration and production equipment, and aerospace applications.
