NH's Best Companies to Work For Unveiled

Published Tuesday Jan 6, 2015

Business NH Magazine has announced the 2014 Best Companies To Work For in NH in its January edition.

For 18 years, Business NH Magazine and its partner NH Businesses for Social Responsibility have recognized businesses that go out of their way to create fun and high-engagement workplaces for their employees through the Best Companies to Work For competition. The 2014 Best Companies to Work For (usually announced in the December issue but for the magazine’s 30th anniversary issue) exemplify how developing a respectful, creative and supportive corporate culture can bring a company to new heights.

To compete, businesses must go through two rounds of judging. The first round winnows the field to 20 semi-finalists—10 large companies (more than 100 employees) and 10 small companies. The second round, which includes site visits to all 20 companies and interviews with focus groups of employees, then narrows the field to the 10 winning companies—five large and five small.

Medtronic broke onto the list this year for the first time as the Best Large Company to Work For. In 2013, their first year in the competition, they were a semifinalist. Wire Belt Company of America in Londonderry is the Best Small Company to Work For in NH. Wire Belt was named to the Hall of Fame in 2011 and 2012. They were also named the Best Small Company to Work For in 2013.

Named to the Best Large Companies list are:

#1 - Medtronic Advanced Energy in Portsmouth (368 employees/156 in NH)

#2 - Newmarket International Inc. in Portsmouth (445 employees/ 245 in NH)

#3 - Hypertherm in Hanover (1,372 employees/1,074 in NH)

#4 - TURBOCAM International in Barrington (437 employees/418 in NH)

#5 - CCA Global Partners in Manchester (342 employees/102 in NH)

#3 - Mad*Pow in Portsmouth (59 employees/34 in NH)

#4 - Admix Incorporated in Manchester (58 employees/54 in NH)

#5 - Bellwether Community Credit Union in Manchester (88 employees)

Bottomline Technologies in Portsmouth remains in the Hall of Fame this year for consistently demonstrating leadership in corporate responsibility. To be in the Hall of Fame, companies must win the competition four of the past five years.

To celebrate the winners and the 18th year of the competition, Business NH Magazine and NH Businesses for Social Responsibility will host Breakfast With The Best on Feb. 11, 2015, at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester. The event, held close to Valentine’s Day with the theme “Love Your Employees,” will feature panels with executives from the winning companies discussing best practices and a keynote address from Bob Kelleher, CEO of The Employee Engagement Group.

Business NH Magazine will also announce major changes to the 2015 competition at the breakfast. To register for the event or to order a copy of the January issue of Business NH Magazine, visit www.BusinessNHmagazine.com or call 603-626-6354 ext. 224.
