NH Lottery Sales Up

Published Tuesday Sep 1, 2009

The NH Lottery Commission is reporting stronger revenue numbers, ending one recent previous week up 2 percent for the current fiscal year. Sales of Powerball, Hot Lotto and the new Megabucks Plus game were significantly higher recent weeks, thanks in part to intense public interest in lottery products.

Powerball sales in New Hampshire for the week and a half leading up to the $259 million Powerball jackpot on August 19 were more than $2.7 million. Officials attribute excitement over the extremely high jackpot prize for the spike in sales.

The new Tri-State Megabucks Plus has been outperforming the original Megabucks game it replaced. Since its debut July 26, total sales for Tri-State Megabucks Plus have been $1.1 million, an increase of about 53 percent.

"We're pleased to see our players responding to the new opportunities our lottery products are providing," said Executive Director Rick Wisler. "There was a lot of buzz around Powerball's 10th highest jackpot ever and Hot Lotto's 2nd highest jackpot. It seems everyone wanted to get into the game. Also, players are responding to Tri-State Megabucks Plus because its jackpots are higher and the overall odds of winning are better than ever."

So far this fiscal year, NH Lottery sales have totaled $37.5 million, an increase of nearly 2 percent over this time last fiscal year.
