NH Lottery Breaking Records

Published Thursday Jul 18, 2013

The New Hampshire Lottery has broken its all-time sales record, surpassing $278.7 million in total sales for fiscal year 2013, an increase of 10 percent over last fiscal year, in unaudited figures. The previous sales record was $265 million in fiscal year 2007. In addition, total net profit for fiscal year 2013 was $72.7 million, up 9.1 percent from last year’s total of $66.7 million.

“The outstanding success in the past year for the New Hampshire Lottery is welcome news for our state’s public education system and for our ability to build a more innovative economic future,” Governor Maggie Hassan said. “Since its inception nearly 50 years ago, the lottery has been a critical source of revenue that has helped the state provide a high quality education to our young people, and I look forward to the program’s continued success.”

According to Charlie McIntyre, executive director of New Hampshire Lottery, this year’s sales make NH's lottery among the performing lotteries in the country.

“These sales figures are phenomenal, and rank the New Hampshire Lottery as the fastest growing lottery in New England,” said McIntyre. “While these figures are still unaudited, they represent an exceptional year for the New Hampshire Lottery. Instant ticket sales continue to lead the way up nearly 10 percent or $16 million, and thanks to two huge Powerball jackpots, sales for Powerball tickets increased nearly 40 percent over last year.”

Fiscal Year 2013 ticket sales highlights include:

  • Total sales: $278,709,114, up 10% from last year’s $253,349,801
  • Instant ticket sales: $192 million, up 10% from last year’s $176 million
  • Powerball ticket sales: $46.2 million, up 40% from last year’s $32.8 million
  • Net Profit: $72.7 million, up 9.1% from last year’s $66.7 million
  • Net Profit Growth in the past two Fiscal Years up 17%

“The New Hampshire Lottery has experienced tremendous growth – especially in the form of net profits,” said McIntyre.  “This goes directly to support education in our state and we are veryproud of our contribution.”

An increase in ticket sales is not only good for the state of New Hampshire, but also for the retailers who sell the tickets.

“For the more than 1,250 retailers in New Hampshire selling lottery tickets at their stores, this represents a strong economic impact on their business,” said John Dumais, president of the New Hampshire Retail Grocers Association, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. “More than $16 million in sales commissions were earned by New Hampshire retailers this past year – an all-time record amount–and we are dedicated to continuing to be a part of the New Hampshire Lottery’s sales operation for years to come.”

During fiscal year 2013, more than $170 million was awarded to lottery players.
