New NHPR Studio Complete

Published Tuesday Dec 30, 2008

North Branch Construction, Inc. of Concord has completed construction of the new broadcast studios for New Hampshire Public Radio. The sixth floor at 2 Pillsbury Street in Concord was transformed from an open 20,000-square-foot space to a state-of-the-art broadcast studio, featuring an isolated core space built for broadcasting surrounded by conference rooms and office support areas. Broadcasting from the new studios began two weeks ago.

Some of the unique features of the construction are hidden beneath the floors and above the ceiling. For example, the broadcast area is isolated from the rest of the building by a floating layered floor (suspended on isolation blocks) and vibration isolation springs support the suspended ceiling. Also, because sound is critical in broadcast, 6- to 12-inch thick walls in the core area were layered with sound insulation blankets.

C.N. Carley Associates of Concord provided the design for the project.
