Prudential Overall Supply, an industry supplier of reusable work apparel and related textiles, broke ground on a clean room and industrial laundry processing facility in Nashua on Sept. 28, claiming it will the largest of tis kind in the country.

Prudential is investing more than $15 million in this facility, which is expected to relieve pressure on a similar cleanroom plant in Richmond, VA, that currently employs 123 people. The new 70,000-square-foot Nashua plant is expected to employ roughly 50 people to start, with second- and third-phase expansion increasing its size to 115,000 square feet, says Stefan Schurter, senior vice president of Prudential Overall Supply. “It will not just be Nashua’s largest cleanroom plant, not just New England’s largest cleanroom plant, or the East Coast’s,” Schurter says. “This will be the largest cleanroom laundry in the United States. It’s really going to be a unique achievement. It’s a first of a kind. We’re really proud that we can build it. And I think it will really bring great jobs.”

The facility will be located at 45 Simon St. in Nashua on a 14.23-acre tract. Prudential is building a one-story facility in three phases, which will include offices, industrial space, employee areas and loading docks with 136 parking spaces on site for staff.

“The location will provide our Northeast customers with additional products and service offerings, and will help with our Company’s expansion into additional markets," says Prudential’s President Tom Watts. Prudential Overall Supply is based in California and provides laundry services to industries including life sciences and aerospace.

"We are pleased to welcome Prudential Overall Supply to Nashua,” says Mayor Jim Donchess. “As a community, we make economic development a top priority. … As a city and region, we are poised to benefit from this positive economic impact. There will be approximately 50 good, high-paying jobs associated with this project. We are excited to assist in bringing these jobs to the Gate City."

The engineering contract was awarded to American Laundry Systems of Haverhill, Mass, the civil engineering contract was awarded to Hayner/Swanson Inc. of Nashua, and the construction management contract was awarded to Dacon Corporation of Natick, Mass.
