New England College Optimistic About The Future

Published Thursday Aug 6, 2015

New England College President Michele Perkins has always envisioned NEC as an innovative, student-centered, and sustainable resource for those seeking meaningful undergraduate and graduate degrees.

During her tenure as Perkins has added significant academic programming, doubled the college’s endowment, added online and 12-month scheduling options for students, and made strategic planning a routine exercise. Strong, experienced talent is also something Perkins recognizes as key to a successful future and recently added former IBM executive Tom Addonizio as vice president for new business strategy. “Tom has had a highly successful career in the corporate environment and is transitioning into higher education after serving a fellowship here at New England College,” said Perkins.  “He brings extensive expertise and passion for strategic initiatives involving education and will undoubtedly develop new businesses in a variety of evolving academic segments.”

Addonizio has over 25 years of operational and business leadership experience, most recently as a marketing executive with IBM, where he held roles such as VP of marketing, VP of market development, and director of competitive intelligence.  “As the first person in my family to attend college, I’m a big believer in New England College’s mission and track record with students,” said Addonizio. “NEC has so much to offer students of all ages and backgrounds. I'm proud to be part of the team and look forward to helping the College reach as many new students as possible.”

Addonizio successfully built and led large, global teams as well as small, project-based teams that identified and addressed specific opportunities in the market. While working in the competitive intelligence landscape, Tom orchestrated a successful string of strategic acquisitions and high-value business partnerships. This experience is a perfect fit for his new business role at New England College.

Addonizio earned his BA in economics from Binghamton University and his MBA in marketing and finance from The Pennsylvania State University. He is currently enrolled at Northeastern University pursuing his Doctorate in Education. Addonizio has held public board positions and currently serves as an executive board member and treasurer for Nashua Cal Ripken Baseball in Nashua, NH. He and his family reside in Nashua.
