Many NH Workers Lack Employer-Based Retirement Fund

Published Thursday Jan 21, 2016

In a world where pensions are rare outside government and municipal employment sectors, employer-based retirement savings plans are crucial to reaching retirement and actually being able to retire, or at least have a cushion while working part time.

But a survey by the Pew Charitable Trusts found that while 66 percent of NH workers have access to a workplace retirement plan, placing the Granite State 8th nationally, more than 100,000 NH workers still have no access to a workplace retirement plan.

Other study highlights from NH include:

  • 87% of workers with access to a workplace retirement plan choose to participate.
  • 44% have tried to figure out exactly how much money they need for retirement.
  • 40% are certain they could come up with $2,000 if an unexpected need arose.
  • 21% are satisfied with their current financial condition.
