This fall, Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) in Laconia will be launching an Associate of Science in Hospitality Management program. The degree will be run through a co-op model that enables students to gain real world learning experience at nearby hospitality businesses to complement their class work.

Students can begin enrolling in the program for the fall 2017 semester. The program's curriculum, which LRCC developed in collaboration with The Common Man in Ashland and The Inn at Mill Falls in Meredith, is currently being finalized and will be officially posted to the college's website and open for enrollment in the next few weeks.

"Our industry partners played an invaluable role in [the program's] development, and the co-op model is well suited for work in hospitality management," says Alan Punches, VP for academic and community affairs at LRCC. "Through this model, our graduates will be work ready from day one and may even have a permanent job awaiting them with one of our industry partners.” He adds that the college is working with additional industry partners who may also become involved with the program.

Under the co-op model, class schedules are coordinated around opportunities for students to apply their learning experiences as employees of these industry partners. As such, students will be paid for the work they complete.

During the fall and spring semesters, students will complete the program curriculum and general education requirements, while between terms, they will complete 100-hour co-op experiences at one of the partner facilities. During the summer between the first and second year, students will complete a 300-hour co-op experience.
