iUGO Nashua Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Published Wednesday Jun 13, 2012

iUGO, a young professionals organization in the Greater Nashua region, announced today that it is celebrating its 5th anniversary in epic fashion on June 21. The organization plans to convert an entire hangar at Boire Field into a private party venue and invite all of Nashua's young professionals and community leaders to join them in their landmark birthday.

Fou Mahfuz, VP of Persian Rug Galleries and chairman of iUGO's Steering Committee, announced that "iUGO is throwing a large birthday bash unlike anything ever before seen in Nashua by taking over an entire hangar at our local airport, and converting it into a party complete with both live bands and a DJ, costume and karaoke contests, and even a large fireworks display to end the evening."

Mahfuz commented that, "all young professionals who live and/or work in Nashua, and all community leaders from both the private and public sector, are invited to join in the festivities."

According to Chris Williams, president & CEO of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, iUGO has secured the necessary approvals from both the Nashua Airport and the City to conduct the hangar party and the large fireworks display that will end the evening festivities.  "iUGO is fortunate to enjoy very strong support from our friends at Nashua Jet Aviation and Boire Field, at City Hall, and at the Fire Department. Thanks to this support, those who attend iUGO's Five-Year birthday party will truly enjoy a fantastic evening unlike anything anyone has ever experienced in Nashua," said Williams.

The anniversary party will take place on June 21, at the Nashua Jet Aviation hangar located on the premises of Boire Field located on Perimeter Road.  Festivities will begin at 6:00pm with a live band, and will continue with a live DJ and a karaoke contest starting at 7:30pm.  A fireworks show located on the premises of the airport will provide the culmination of the evening at approximately 9:00pm.  Other activities will be interspersed throughout the evening, providing additional entertainment. Bellavance Beverages is providing beer to the event, while Sausage King is providing food.

The event is generously sponsored by Granite State College, with supporting sponsorship provided by Merrimack County Savings Bank. "As a provider of higher education and continuing education opportunities and partner at the Nashua Community College campus, Granite State College is proud to debut its involvement with Nashua's young professionals by supporting this landmark birthday," said Kate Benway-Yerkes, Director of Public Affairs at Granite State College.

Five years ago, a group of young professionals came together through the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce to create an organization that knows how to have fun, but also provides professional and networking opportunities along the way.  They named the group iUGO, which is a Latin term that means "to connect."

And that's what iUGO has done over the past five years - it's connected young people in and around Nashua to fun events such as dodgeball and kickball tournaments, pub tours, and wine tastings.  It's connected young people to professional events like lunches with Mayor Lozeau and the president of Citizens Bank, to first-time home buyer seminars, and to social media training.  iUGO is managed by a Steering Committee comprised of young professionals who volunteer their time to plan the organization's events.  The chairman of the Steering Committee sits on the Chamber's board of directors, and the Chamber provides strategic and tactical oversight, and staff support, to the organization.

Those wishing to attend the event on June 21 can register by visiting www.iugonashua.com.  Additional information is available by calling the Chamber office at 603.881.8333.
