GSIL and SNHU Partnership Helps Develop Leadership Skills

Published Thursday Feb 22, 2018

A local nonprofit that provides social opportunities for individuals living with disabilities, has created a partnership with Granite State Independent Living (GSIL) and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

According to a statement, the partnership, spearheaded by Dreamcatchers Executive Director Dena Stahlheber and SNHU professor Andrea Bard, focuses on developing important leadership skills and creating connections with local college students.

Stahlheber says she believes in the importance of working together, “It’s important to collaborate with other nonprofit organizations as we are all working towards the same mission; we partnered with SNHU and GSIL to create a powerful leadership program that connect students living with disabilities to college students and magic happened."

The young adults involved in the Dreamcatcher’s program visited the SNHU campus, participated in activities with college students, and built relationships that taught them about leadership.

According to the statement, these programs foster true friendship and confidence in individuals living with disability. This is just one of the numerous benefits of being a part of the Dreamcatchers NH organization.

Founded in 1996, Dreamcatchers works to connect middle schoolers with their peers, young adults with college mentors, and older adults with community involvement in their various neighborhoods. They have regional meetings in Goffstown, Manchester, Hooksett, and Dover.

Dreamcatchers will be holding their annual karaoke fundraiser on April 13th, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at SNHU. Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family of four; more information is at dreamcatchersnh.org.
