Governor Appoints Commissioner for Department of Resources and Economic Development

Reinforcing her commitment to encouraging innovation and supporting business growth to create good jobs, Governor Maggie Hassan announced today that she will nominate Jeffrey Rose of Goffstown to serve as the new commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED).

New Hampshire is well-positioned to be a leader in an innovation economy, and Jeffrey Rose has the public and private sector experience necessary to help move those efforts forward, Hassan said. I want the Department of Resources and Economic Development to lead the way in helping our existing businesses grow and attracting new companies to New Hampshire by advocating for the strong, educated workforce we need to succeed, by providing businesses with technical support, and by protecting the natural resources that attract so many people and companies to New Hampshire.

Rose has extensive experience. Since 2004, Rose has worked for BAE Systems, one of New Hampshire's largest employers, in numerous government relations and public affairs roles, currently serving as director of public affairs for BAE's Electronic Systems (ES) Sector. Rose has also served as chair of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce and played active roles in the Business and Industry Association and New England Council. He began his work in NH as a special assistant to Congressman John E. Sununu, going on to serve as projects director for U.S. Senator Bob Smith and state director for Congressman Jeb Bradley.

The Department of Resources and Economic Development serves as the face of our state to the business community, said Rose. The Department of Resources and Economic Development, created in 1961, works to maximize New Hampshire's advantages to encourage business growth and expansion. The department consists of four divisions: Forest and Lands, Parks and Recreation, Travel and Tourism Development, and Economic Development.

Rose's nomination is subject to confirmation by the Executive Council.
