Last year, Elliot Health System in Manchester and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health in Lebanon began discussing the possibility of entering a formal partnership. However, the two organizations have decided not to continue pursuing an official affiliation and will instead "build on our work together in alternative ways." Below is a statement released by Elliot last Friday:

On May 19, 2016, the Board of Directors of Elliot Health System decided to pursue a formal organizational relationship with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health.  Since that time, both Elliot and Dartmouth-Hitchcock have worked very hard to engage in substantive discussions over how to best achieve our shared goals, and have attempted to come to a formal agreement to create such a relationship.

Despite the sustained hard work and good faith of both Boards and Senior Management, we have together agreed to shift our focus from pursuing a jointly integrated system to seeking the best means to continue to build on our work together in alternative ways.  This means that Elliot Health System will continue to work with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, but not continue to pursue an affiliation structure.  Rather, we will continue to look at services the community wants and needs, and continue to work together to bolster those programs.

Elliot Health System will focus its efforts on our emergency department needs, cancer center goals and the potential for hospital expansion.  As we do so, the Board will continue to consider future affiliation options.

For over 126 years, Elliot’s mission and commitment to the community have remained unwavering, and the dedication of our Elliot employees and medical staff remain focused on caring for patients and serving our community.  We thank our friends and colleagues at Dartmouth-Hitchcock for their engagement throughout this process, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them to meet the needs of the community.
