Here’s a sampling of some of the construction projects from around the state that either ended or started in the past six months.

Goffe Mill Plaza • 121 South River Road, Bedford

The plaza will house a 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods with an additional 8,000 square feet slated for retail space. The site will also have two restaurants, a bank and an apartment building.

 

EMD Millipore Biomass Central Heat Plant

EMD Millipore’s biomass central heat plant supplies steam for all heating and process needs of the Jaffrey site, eliminating the use of over 400,000 gallons of oil annually.  The biomass central heat plant replaced 14 aging oil-fired boilers with a single biomass boiler and is expected to reduce emissions by more than 25 percent. The  biomass plant includes a propane boiler for backup.

 

Exeter Area YMCA • 56 Linden St., Exeter

This family-centric facility will provide a range of activities and affordable programs.

Amenities: Phase One includes a cardio and weight room, group fitness studios, an indoor track, full-court gymnasium, a multi-purpose community room, locker rooms and dedicated child watch room. An aquatic center planned for a Phase Two building is currently in the design phase.

Distinctive Features: An indoor track runs above a full-court gymnasium. Forty solar tubes will be installed in the roof and ceiling to bring in natural light throughout the building. Other features include energy-efficient windows, sensors to control artificial light usage and a two-story donor appreciation wall.

 

Hooksett Welcome Centers • Interstate 93

The Hooksett Welcome Centers are the new roadside welcome centers on Interstate 93 near Exit 11.

Amenities: NH State Liquor Store, Common Man Roadside food court, full-service bank on northbound side (Merrimack Savings Bank), League of NH Craftsmen retail store (northbound side), Tesla electric car charging stations, gas stations.

Distinctive Features: Waterfalls with a likeness of the Old Man of the Mountain & Covered Bridge, and large topographical map of NH (northbound side); 22’ Water Wheel and a display by Dartmouth-Hitchcock, BAE Systems, UNH and Stay Work Play NH promoting education, current job openings and why people should live and work in NH (southbound side)

 

Madbury Commons • 17-21 Madbury Road, Durham

A mixed use residential and commercial development that will house 525 students and the University of NH’s InterOperability Lab, a nonprofit test lab that provides hands-on experience to future engineers.

Amenities: Apartments will offer a variety of floor plans and include air conditioning, washer and dryer, and separate living areas. The grounds will feature a pedestrian boulevard with public patio and new footbridges across the adjacent brook towards downtown Durham.

 

NH Army National Guard Regional Training Institute and Barracks

Building Owner: State of NH and the NH Army National Guard
Construction Company: Eckman Construction Company Inc., Bedford
Architect/Engineering Firm: Oak Point Associates, Portsmouth

The Regional Training Institute and Barracks will provide military training to members of the NH Army National Guard and Armed Forces troops from across the world.

Amenities: Features a large multi-purpose training area, training device and simulation center, physical fitness training room, classrooms, a 180-seat auditorium, commercial kitchen and dining area. The barracks building can sleep up to 144 people. The large site also features an outdoor 400-meter running track for fitness training.

Distinctive Features: This project was stopped in 2012 when a previous construction contract with a Massachusetts-based general contractor was terminated and restarted in 2014 when Eckman Construction was hired to complete the project. The buildings are constructed with blast-proof materials and radiant heat is used under the flooring. The project is designed to meet LEED Silver specification standards.

 

NH Job Corps Center

The Job Corps Center will serve people 16 to 24 years old, who will spend an average of eight months earning their high school diploma or GED while also preparing for a career.

Amenities: The campus features classrooms, a dining hall, a gym/recreation facility, dormitories with a total of 360 beds, and an administration and wellness center. There is also a community courtyard where students can socialize in the center of the campus.

Distinctive Features: Built on a hill on a 25-acre site, the Job Corps Center incorporates design features that blend with the natural surroundings including clear heartwood cedar siding and large glass curtain walls that offer views of the courtyard and woods. The building design incorporated many LEED standards and sustainable features including high performance building envelopes on all seven buildings. Exterior aluminum sunshades are installed on many of the buildings to reduce summertime heat gain and give the buildings a modern aesthetic.

 

RiverWalk Resort at Loon • Lincoln
