Concord Hospital Announces New CEO

Published Friday Oct 4, 2013

The Concord Hospital board of trustees announced that Robert P. Steigmeyer was selected as Concord Hospital’s next CEO and president, starting in January 2014.

“This appointment was the result of a nationwide search and a careful review of many qualified candidates,” said Muriel Schadee, hospital board and search committee chair. “Our board voted unanimously to approve the search committee’s recommendation to offer the position to Bob Steigmeyer. He brings valuable experience and dedicated knowledge to the role, together with a commitment to the charitable mission of our organization.”

Steigmeyer has been the chief executive officer at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania since 2012 when the Community Medical Center System, where he had been the president and CEO since 2010, joined Geisinger Health System. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of operations and finance for Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where he was responsible for overseeing all clinical programs, nursing, medical groups, and support functions, including information technology and finance.

“It is a great honor to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead Concord Hospital. Concord Hospital’s transformation from a community hospital to a progressive and high performing regional integrated health care system under the leadership of Michael Green has been a great accomplishment. As a result, Concord Hospital is now very well positioned to address the current challenges facing the healthcare industry. I look forward to working with the community, the board, physicians and staff to maintain the highest level of care, help meet the current and future health care needs of the community and provide the best possible patient experience,” said Steigmeyer. “My family and I have been awed by the beauty of New Hampshire and warmed by the people we have met. We look forward to making our home in Concord, New Hampshire and becoming part of the community.”

The search committee, comprising hospital board members and a representative from the Concord Hospital Trust board, has engaged in an extensive process for the past nine months to select a candidate. The committee was supported in the process by Witt/Kieffer - the firm used in the last CEO search 20 years ago – who evaluated all candidates, presenting 13 to the search committee for consideration. The committee selected six semi-finalists for interviews, which took place late in July. Narrowing the pool to two finalists, the committee engaged many members of the hospital and Capital Region Health Care community to participate in the assessment and interview process.
