Class of 2014 Justin Eckilson

Published Friday Aug 8, 2014

In recent years, there’s been increased concern by state leaders about whether NH can keep its best and brightest. With the help of the NH College and University Council in Concord, Business NH Magazine checked in with colleges and universities around the state to find out what their top students are planning. Here’s what one graduate reported back to us.

Justin Eckilson, Saint Anselm College

Hometown: Woonsocket, RI

Degree Earned: Honors BA in History with French minor

GPA: 3.96

Career Aspirations: I initially came to college thinking I wanted to work in a museum or in the public history field, but from my service experiences at Saint Anselm College and the college’s service-oriented identity, I realized that I wanted to become a teacher to help serve under resourced and marginalized students in Catholic schools.

Graduate School: I am a member of the Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT) Program through Providence College in Providence, RI. PACT is a two-year service through teaching program, through which members receive a Masters of Education and teaching certification while working as full-time teachers in Catholic schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. During the summers, I will be doing coursework at Providence College toward my Masters, and during the academic year, I will be working as a full-time teacher at St. Michael School, a Catholic K–8 school in Fall River, MA. I will be teaching middle school social studies.

Why move out of NH? I returned home to Rhode Island for graduate school.
