Published Thursday Dec 11, 2014

The Carsey Institute at the University of NH in Durham is awarding a Carsey Social Innovator of the Year, which will recognize a New England leader with a demonstrated commitment to social innovation. In a press release, the Carsey Institute said social innovators combine the passion and purpose of a social or environmental mission, with the rigor and accountability of a financially sustainable, scalable model for change. The honoree is Eric Schwarz, who will be recognized at the New Hampshire Social Venture Innovation Challenge Monday, Dec. 15, at UNH, where he will deliver the keynote address on social entrepreneurship and systemic social change.

Schwarz is co-founder and former CEO of Citizen Schools, a Boston program that seeks to expand learning opportunities for low-income middle schoolers and is located in Boston, and the author of the recently published book, The Opportunity Equation.
