At McFarland Johnson, the employees literally are the owners. Besides being a 100% employee-owned firm, McFarland Johnson finds a variety of ways to reward innovation and leadership.
This includes a “Thought Leader” bonus for employee owners who share their expertise through conference presentations or speaking engagements, professional journal articles or publications, presentations to student organizations or college classes, or in-house training sessions.
To support diversity within the firm as well as the industry, McFarland Johnson offers a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) bonus to employee owners who support efforts to improve diversity in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) field, including presentations at universities, STEM events and other student organizations. The firm established a Women in STEM Employee Resource Group to attract more women in technical and engineering roles, and it offers a diversity scholarship to support underrepresented minorities or women pursuing a degree in a STEM field as well as micro-internships for students at historically black colleges and universities. It also has a Rising Leaders/Young Professionals mentoring program.
Employees receive $100 for every five-year anniversary to spend on a personal gift of their choice, and employees who refer a new employee to the firm are eligible for bonuses ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.
Employees can work a compressed workweek during the summer that allows them to work half days on Fridays, and new parents receive three weeks of paternity leave and six weeks of maternity leave. McFarland Johnson also provides a $300 fitness reimbursement.
