The NH National Guard offers plenty of perks to those who answer the call to protect, not the least of which is free tuition while attending a NH state college or university. Even if guard members attend another school, they can still receive annual tuition assistance of $4,000.

The Guard pays 88% of health care premiums and provides 22 to 45 days of paid time off annually as well as 11 paid holidays, 13 sick days and 12 weeks of paid parental leave. And, yes, the Guard even has telework options.

Employees can earn incentives of up to $3,000 as well up to 40 additional hours of paid time off. Those completing 20 qualifying years of service become eligible for retirement pay at age 60, and retirees and their spouses are eligible for health insurance for life.

Knowing it is important to keep Guard members and employees fit, employees receive five paid hours per week to participate in fitness programs and access to onsite gyms. And it’s not just physical health that is a priority for the Guard, which has dedicated directors of psychological health. These independently licensed professionals facilitate preventive, remedial and psychological support for Guard members and their families.

Speaking of families, the Guard knows soldiers perform better when their families are safe. The Guard provides family assistance support centers, family readiness support and youth coordinators. Through these, it also offers free summer and vacation camps for kids, teen leadership opportunities, winter break/vacation kits, holiday events and military youth appreciation certificates.
