Next year the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Manchester will celebrate 120 years of providing a safe, supportive environment where young people can learn, grow, and build essential life skills outside of school hours.

The nonprofit, which has more than 60 employees and more than 130 volunteers, has evolved to meet the needs of the over 1,700 children and member families it serves annually.

It offers after-school and summer programs (including Camp Foster), as well as academic support and enrichment programs, STEM activities, arts, leadership development,  athletics and recreation. It even provides transportation for children from school to the Club. “What we are is a safe place where kids can discover their passions,” says CEO Diane Fitzpatrick.

It has formed community partnerships with Amoskeag Health, The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, Elliot Health System, and the NH Food Bank to offer a weekly food pantry,  as well as the Fresh Mobile Market, where families can access fresh vegetables, fruits and meat during the summer and early fall months, and has mental health counselors on site daily.

“Over 200 kids attend our breakfast program [daily] and in the afternoon they have a healthy snack and then a wonderful dinner. Our food program has become essential,” says Fitzpatrick.

Continued support from corporate partners like Comcast and Fidelity provides access to technology to expand digital literacy and arts programming, as well as life skill development.

In 2024, the board of directors approved the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester to serve as the lead tenant of the Mark Stebbins Community Center, where it will provide vital services to underserved neighborhoods on the city’s West Side and provide back-office administrative support.

The club supports 52% of its membership with financial aid totaling more than $181,000 during the 2024–2025 school year. “We’ve broken down barriers to bring resources to our families,” says Fitzpatrick of her board, staff and community partners.

Fitzpatrick was named Executive of the Year at Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Conference in 2024 and was named the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2025.

“I am thankful for a board of directors and a staff who are willing to pivot. It is important for this organization to drive forward to meet the needs of families with high quality programs,” Fitzpatrick says.
